Joel Sherrill, PhD
Deputy Director of the Division of Services and Intervention Research
National Institute of Mental Health

The core mission of the Division is to foster excellent science aimed at testing and optimizing the effectiveness of interventions (e.g., refining preventive and therapeutic interventions to improve their potency and efficiency, testing prescriptive strategies for matching and sequencing interventions), improving the delivery and quality of evidence-based services, and accelerating the dissemination, implementation, and continuous improvement of new practices in diverse treatment settings. Dr. Sherrill completed his graduate training in clinical psychology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and completed his clinical internship and a postdoctoral research fellowship at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Prior to joining NIMH, he pursued research on the long-term course and treatment of early-onset mood disorders at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
