Aaron Foglio Accepted into the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine MD Program

Aaron Foglio, a former fellow in the 2013 Conte Center Undergraduate Research Program (URP) has been accepted in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine MD Program. He continued his research work in Dr. David Lewis’ lab, under the mentorship of Dr. John Enwright, the following summer (2014) through graduation.

Aaron played an essential role in the investigation of perineuronal nets (PNNs), a specialized condensation of the extracellular matrix found around subsets of cortical neurons. He presented posters of his work at the University of Pittsburgh’s annual celebration of science and technology, Science 2013; the annual 2014 Society for Neuroscience meeting in Washington DC; and at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic’s annual Research Day 2014. In 2014, Aaron was selected by the Provost's office to represent the University of Pittsburgh at the 2014 Atlantic Conference Consortium (ACC) Meeting of the Minds Conference hosted by the University of Pittsburgh. In addition, Aaron is a co-author on a paper that has been submitted for publication.

After graduation in 2015, Aaron was awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in Taiwan, where he’s also had the opportunity to scrub in and assist on orthopedic surgeries at the Kinmen Hospital in Kinmen Country. He’ll return in the fall to begin his MD training in the School of Medicine.
