Undergraduate Research Program Application Requirements
The program is designed for students enrolled at an institution in the greater Pittsburgh area. Only students in their freshman or sophomore years are eligible to apply. The due date for the Summer 2019 program is Friday, February 8, 2019.

To apply, please e-mail the items below to Lisa Murphree.
  1. Completed application form.
  2. Official college (all applicants) and high school (freshman only) transcripts. The college transcript should be complete up to, and including the fall term immediately preceding the application deadline.
  3. Potential Research Mentors. After reviewing the research interests of the CTMHR Investigators, applicants are asked to list three investigators with whom they would potentially like to work.
  4. Resume.
  5. Brief Personal Statement (2 page limit). We understand that in the freshman and sophomore years, educational and career exploration is at an early stage. Your personal statement should freely express your current interests and objectives. The application does not require having identified a concrete career direction. In this statement you should describe 1) your academic interests; 2) previous research experience, if any; and 3) your short and long term goals. Your statement must be double-spaced in 12 pt Arial font, with 1 inch margins on all sides.
In addition, please request that two letters of recommendation be sent directly to Your letters of recommendation should be from faculty members who are best able to comment on your academic aptitude and your future potential and goals. For freshman applicants only, one of the two letters of recommendation may be submitted by a teacher from your high school institution.

Interviews, Notification & Schedule
Upon receipt of a completed application packet, successful applicants will be invited to interview. Notification of final acceptances will be made in mid-March.

The 10-week summer CTMHR Undergraduate Research Program will run from May 20 to July 26, 2019. After the summer session, ongoing participation is determined on an individual basis.
