Undergraduate Research Program Timeline
The following timeline shows representative activities available to CTMHR Undergraduate Research Program fellows. Fellows may begin the program in the summer following their freshman or sophomore years.

Academic Year Prior to the Summer

  • Apply
  • Interview
  • Mentor-matching

Summer Portion of the Program

  • Complete a research project in a laboratory/study of interest (40 hours per week)
  • Receive training in research skills
  • Participate in Summer Training Activities (training sessions and journal club)
  • Attend Clinical Exposure experiences
  • Present research project findings to CTMHR faculty and other fellows

Academic Year Following the Summer

  • Upon completion of the summer portion of the program, students are eligible for continuing the program and receiving a research stipend during the following fall and spring semesters. Instead of receiving a stipend, students may also choose to do research for academic credit
  • Students work one-on-one with their mentor for a minimum of 10 hours per week, and a maximum of 15 hours per week

Subsequent Summers

  • Students who have completed one summer are invited to participate in all training activities during subsequent summers as “alumni” of the program. This includes training sessions, journal club and Clinical Exposures
  • Along with current fellows of the program, alumni may also present their research findings from the summer at the end of the summer
